Now, decades of history and more than $230,000 in restoration work come together in one rare aircraft. NBC Los Angeles helicopter NewsChopper4 went down Tuesday while providing aerial coverage of a accident involving a bus and an SUV, leaving three dead. The Los Angeles Fire Department said more than 70 firefighters responded just before 7 p.m. Tuesday to the helicopter accident scene between two commercial buildings at 9151 N. Mason Ave. in Chatsworth, Calif. The helicopter, a Eurocopter AS 350 B2 Ecureuil, was maneuvering at a low altitude to film the scene of a fatal car/bus collision at the time of the accident. The Air Force is on track to reach its annual goal of graduating 1,500 new pilots that had proved elusive to this point, one year after the service launched a sweeping overhaul of its undergraduate pilot training program, Air Education and Training Command (AETC) said Sept. 14. Reaching the milestone under the new Future of Undergraduate Pilot Training, or FUPT, program, will help “support the Air Force’s broader effort to address a pilot shortage,” AETC stated.
