OK, now it’s time for the Patriots to panic about Drake Maye

The New England quarterback was a revelation in the 2025 regular season. But Sunday’s loss was just the latest in a series of crushing lows After the Patriots pulled out a win in Week 2 over the Steelers, despite another uninspiring performance from Drake Maye, Mike Vrabel avoided answering questions about his quarterback. Vrabel joked with a reporter not to “ruin my Sunday” when asked about Maye. And this was after a win . On Sunday, Maye was largely responsible for ruining Vrabel’s afternoon in the Patriots’ 35-6 loss to Jacksonville, which felt like rock bottom (the Pats hope). Simply put, Maye was atrocious. The 2025 MVP runner-up was 14-of-25 for 199 yards, no touchdowns, two interceptions, three sacks, and a lost fumble. Continue reading...

Live updates from the 6pm BST games around the NFL Get in touch: mail Graham about all the latest matches So what has been the difference for Cincinnati on defense? The acquisition of tackle Dexter Lawrence from the New York Giants. The Bengals traded the 10th overall pick for him in the offseason as they searched for an elite gamechanger. And they seem to have found exactly that after beating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Houston Texans. Lawrence has been a rock solid base for Cincinnati to go to work and lead the NFL in both sacks (eight) and turnovers (three). Lawrence and company will be feeling good about continuing their impressive start against the Pittsburgh Steelers today. Mike McCarthy’s team are 1-1 but struggling on offense and have retooled the whole right side of their offensive line to remedy having scored the league’s fewest points (23) after two games. (0-2) Los Angeles Chargers v Buffalo Bills (2-0) (1-1) Carolina Panthers v Cleveland Browns (1-1) (1-1) New York Jets v Detroit Lions (1-1) (0-2) Houston Texans v Indianapolis Colts (0-2) (1-1) New England Patriots v Jacksonville Jaguars (1-1) (2-0) Kansas City Chiefs v Miami Dolphins (0-2) (0-2) Tennessee Titans v New York Giants (1-1) (2-0) Cincinnati Bengals v Pittsburgh Steelers (1-1) (2-0) Seattle Seahawks v Washington Commanders (0-2) Continue reading...

Robert Kraft, once the NFL’s good guy, is just another billionaire silencing Macklemore | Howard Bryant

The Patriots owner’s decision to ban the rapper from performing at the team’s stadium brings back memories of the blackballing of Colin Kaepernick Six years ago, in the middle of a “racial reckoning” that never was, a White House that had begun out of control reached its chaotic apex. Federal officials were sweeping citizens off American streets in unmarked vehicles , surrounding the Lincoln Memorial with armed guards and rolling military vehicles through residential neighborhoods in a fascist reaction to protests against the murder of George Floyd. It was at this point that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, realizing it had all gone too far, appeared on a Zoom and admitted his league was “wrong” for not listening to its players when they had protested against police brutality. The implication was clear: more than any other sports league, the NFL was harshest in its reaction to the protests that began with Trayvon Martin in 2012 and continued with Ferguson, Baltimore, and Colin Kaepernick. By blackballing Kaepernick, sitting by while broadcast partners refused to air the national anthem to undermine the protests, and, most embarrassingly, Goodell’s draconian announcement that teams would be subject to fines if players showed dissent, the NFL had proven itself to act in the most un-American of ways. Howard Bryant is the author of 11 books, including Full Dissidence: Notes from an Uneven Playing Field, and Kings and Pawns: Jackie Robinson and Paul Robeson in America.
