UAE ruling: Filming a violation is legal, but posting it on WhatsApp or social media could land you in court

UAE ruling: Filming a violation is legal, but posting it on WhatsApp or social media could land you in court

Fujairah: Consumers resort to protecting their rights by filming a violation, with the intention of documenting it. However, the way the video is used after filming may move its owner from the position of a reporter to the position of one accused of defamation, if it turns out that the goal of the recording is to offend. Legal experts stressed the consumer's right to document violations and not to treat the phone as an open permit to publish or share clips with others, stressing that the legal rule is simple in appearance and decisive in its effect, and stipulates that "the violation should not be made a subject of public condemnation before the competent authorities have their say," noting that the line between legitimate documentation and defamation is very fine, determined by the way the clip is used and the entity to which it is sent. They explained that filming an incident that a person believes constitutes a violation and sending it to a competent authority is legally different from publishing it through social media platforms or circulating it among family or professional WhatsApp groups, especially if it is accompanied by accusations or phrases that harm the reputation of a person or establishment, such as ‘Do not buy this product’. They stressed that the right to report does not mean having an absolute right to publish or issue judgments before the competent authorities verify the incident. Consumer case Recently, there were reports about a consumer case in which, insects were found inside a product displayed in a supermarket, and an individual photographed it with his phone, and sent the video to the relevant authorities, fulfilling his duty to protect consumers. However, the supermarket management sued him, turning him from a complainant into someone accused of defamation before the courts. The Court of First Instance acquitted him, while the Court of Appeal convicted him and fined him Dh3,000, and ordered the confiscation of the phone used in the filming, before the case reached the Federal Supreme Court, which confirmed that merely taking the clip is not enough to establish the crime, and that the matter requires proof of bad faith and intent to offend or harm the reputation of others, noting that the consumer filmed the product because he believed there was a violation that required reporting to the competent authorities, and it was not proven that his goal was to defame the store or harm its reputation. Legal advisor and lawyer Mohammed Ali Al Hammadi said that the importance of the ruling does not stop at the acquittal of the accused in the incident in question. Picture credit: Supplied Legal advisor and lawyer Mohammed Ali Al Hammadi said that the importance of the ruling does not stop at the acquittal of the accused in the incident in question, but extends to the principle established by the Federal Supreme Court, which relates to the consumer’s right to document the violations he sees and report them to the competent authorities, as long as this is done in good faith and within the limits required by the reporting process. He added that the ruling drew a clear distinction between documentation for the purpose of reporting and filming for the purpose of defamation or abuse, explaining that “merely carrying a phone and filming a violation does not automatically turn the act into a crime, but rather the intention behind the filming, the purpose of using the clip, and the party to whom it was sent are considered.” He added that a consumer who sees a product that he believes is unfit for consumption, or a violation that affects health, safety, or consumer rights, can document the incident to the extent necessary and refer it to the competent authorities to verify it, stressing that this is completely different from posting the clip on social media or circulating it among others with the intention of offending or defaming. He said that in such cases, the phone may be a means of proving the violation and protecting the right, or it may turn into a tool of crime, and the difference between the two cases is determined by the purpose of the filming, and the method of using the filmed material afterwards. He stated that the principle issued by the Federal Supreme Court carries an important message to consumers about the need to be aware of their right to report violations, while at the same time adhering to the legal limits of this right. What the law says Al-Hammadi continued: “If a consumer witnesses a violation, he has the right to document it to the extent necessary and send it directly to the competent authority. However, this right does not mean publishing the clip widely or turning the report into a means of defaming the establishment or individuals.” He pointed out that legislation differentiates between handing over evidence or a picture to a competent authority for the purpose of verifying a violation, and using the picture or clip with the intention of offending a person or establishment or harming its reputation, because violating privacy or publishing materials with the intention of harming may entail legal responsibility for the perpetrator. He explained that the legal principle presents consumers with three essential elements to consider when filming any violation: the purpose of the filming, how the footage will be used, and the entity to which it will be sent. He emphasised that "the rule consumers should understand is: if you witness a violation, document it only when necessary, and send it only to the competent authority; do not turn the report into a means of defamation." Lawyer and legal consultant Abdullah bin Hatem said that a person may be faced with a real incident that deserves to be reported, but that does not necessarily give him the right to turn it into a campaign against an establishment or person. Picture credit: Supplied For his part, lawyer and legal consultant Abdullah bin Hatem said that describing an act as defamation is not related to the mere existence of a picture or video clip, but rather it looks at the way the image material is used and the accompanying phrases, the extent of its publication, and the purpose of its circulation. He explained that the matter is different when a person goes beyond submitting a report to publishing the clip in front of the public, especially if the publication is accompanied by accusations or descriptions that affect the reputation, or is based on personal opinions and conclusions or information and facts narrated by the owner of the clip without verifying their accuracy or proving them with the competent authorities. He added that a person may be faced with a real incident that deserves to be reported, but that does not necessarily give him the right to turn it into a campaign against an establishment or person, or to issue a prejudgment against them before the official authorities have investigated the incident and taken the necessary measures. Bin Hatem pointed out that social media platforms increase the sensitivity of these incidents, because the clip may spread within hours to thousands of people, which may result in damage that cannot be easily remedied, even if it is later proven that some of the published information was not accurate. He stressed that the main difference is that “the informant presents his evidence to the competent authority, while the one who publishes in front of the public bears the responsibility for what he publishes and the statements and accusations he accompanies it with.” He explained that technological development and the spread of smartphones have made photography a part of daily life, but the ease of recording any incident does not mean that its subsequent use is free from responsibility. Bin Hatem pointed out that good faith is not measured simply by a person saying they intended to report something, but rather by the circumstances of the incident, the method of filming, what they did with the material afterward, and the recipient. He emphasised that consumers should not refrain from documenting violations for fear of repercussions, but at the same time, they should not treat their phones as an open license to publish or defame. He explained that “the rule established by the ruling appears simple on the surface, but it is decisive in its effect: Do not make the violation a subject for public condemnation before the competent authorities have their say.” Limits of photography or videography Lawyer and legal consultant Sarah Al-Baqishi said that documentation remains within the framework of legitimate use when it is linked to a real need to prove an event or situation, and is done only to the extent necessary. Picture credit: Supplied For her part, lawyer and legal consultant Sarah Al-Baqishi said that documentation remains within the framework of legitimate use when it is linked to a real need to prove an event or situation, and is done only to the extent necessary, provided that the image or photographed material is submitted to the competent authority to verify it, and not published publicly or circulated among people, including through family groups or other private communication channels. She added that examples include photographing a product that shows signs of damage or spoilage, a violation related to health and safety, or a situation that the consumer needs to prove exists within a formal complaint. She explained that the consumer should limit the photography to the location of the violation as much as possible, and avoid photographing people or private data that is not related to the report, especially if there is no need to show it to the competent authority. She pointed out that having a picture or video does not give its owner absolute freedom to publish it, as there is a difference between using it as evidence in an official complaint and using it as public content on social media. Al-Baqishi stressed that the best way to protect the person who filed the report is to keep the material, document the time and place of the incident, send it directly to the concerned authority, and leave the task of verifying the violation and taking legal action to the competent authorities.

Fujairah rescue: Domestic worker saves seven-year-old boy in well collapse by holding him until help arrived

Fujairah rescue: Domestic worker saves seven-year-old boy in well collapse by holding him until help arrived

Fujairah: An Ethiopian domestic worker, 25, clung to a seven-year-old child after they both fell into a well inside a house in the Murayshid area of Fujairah. She continued to hold him and protect him, leaning on an iron part inside the well, refusing to leave him despite her injury and the difficulty of the situation, until the Police, Civil Defence and national ambulance teams arrived. She handed the child over to the rescue teams first, before exiting the well. The Deputy Director of Fujairah Civil Defence Department, Colonel Khalid Rabie Al Hamoudi, visited the child’s family at their home to check on his safety following the accident. He also checked on the health of the domestic worker who is still receiving treatment at Fujairah Hospital after suffering a fracture in one of her legs. One of the child’s relatives, who was at home at the time of the incident, said that the incident occurred at around 3.30pm on Saturday, while the child was visiting his mother’s family home with his mother. She explained that the child suffers from hyperactivity, and therefore the family had assigned two workers to follow up on him, monitor his movements, and keep him away from any source of danger that might harm him. She added that one of the two workers was new to the family and was unaware of the existence of a well behind the house, which had been covered with slabs and stone pieces that were placed to secure the cover. She noted that the child ran towards the area behind the house, and the new worker followed him to monitor him, while the other worker was on her lunch break. She continued: “The child and the worker reached the well and stood on top of the cover without realising it was underneath them, before the cover collapsed because it could not bear their weight, and they both fell into the well.” As soon as the Police, Civil Defence and national ambulance arrived, the worker made sure to hand the child over to them first, before she was taken out. Picture credit: Supplied She explained that the worker started screaming and calling for help from inside the well, until the other worker heard her and rushed to the place, adding that she was asleep at that time and woke up to the sounds of screaming and calling for help, so she quickly contacted the Police and asked for assistance. She said that the injured worker held on to the child throughout the period of waiting for the rescue teams, who responded quickly to the report, while she was leaning on an iron part inside the well to prevent them from falling to a deeper level, stressing that she “refused to leave the child or let go of him despite the difficulty of the situation and her injury.” She added that as soon as the Police, Civil Defence and national ambulance arrived, the worker made sure to hand the child over to them first, before she was taken out, and both of them were transferred to receive treatment. She noted that the child left the hospital the following day after his health was checked, while the domestic worker is still receiving treatment at Fujairah Hospital due to a broken leg. She confirmed that, following the incident, the family took additional measures to secure the well site, as it was closed with a tight iron cover, and an iron door and barrier were placed to prevent access to it, to ensure that no one approaches it in the future, and to maintain the safety of the family members. Colonel Khalid Rabie Al Hamoudi visited the child’s family at their home, checked on his health during the visit, and congratulated the family on his safety, stressing the Fujairah Civil Defence Department’s keenness to follow up on humanitarian cases and stand by members of the community. He also checked on the health condition of the assistant worker at Fujairah Hospital, wishing her and the child continued health, wellness and a speedy recovery. The Fujairah Civil Defence Department stressed the importance of homeowners, farm owners, and landowners securing wells and closing them tightly, placing barriers and clear warning signs around them, and not leaving them exposed or without means of protection, warning that unsecured wells pose a real danger to children and adults, and a moment of inattention may turn into a life-threatening accident. It stressed that community safety is a shared responsibility, and that taking simple preventive measures to secure well sites could help prevent accidents and save lives.

Standard Chartered Says Hormuz Oil Flows Are Far From Normal

Oil flows through the Middle East have staged an impressive rebound, with export volumes recovering to near pre-war levels even as traffic through the Strait of Hormuz remains well below normal. Standard Chartered estimates crude and condensate exports from the Gulf, excluding Iran and including bypass routes such as Fujairah and the Red Sea, reached roughly 16.5 million barrels per day (bpd) in September, broadly back to pre-war volumes. But only 60% of those barrels crossed the Strait of Hormuz, compared with 83% before the war. Standard Chartered…

From mountain caves to honey hives: Emirati beekeeper keeps a centuries-old tradition alive

From mountain caves to honey hives: Emirati beekeeper keeps a centuries-old tradition alive

Fujairah: For Emirati beekeeper Ali Salem Al Dhanhani, chasing wild bees through mountain ranges and searching for their hives among caves and rocky cliffs is more than a profession. It is a way of preserving a heritage deeply connected to the UAE's natural environment and the traditions of its people. Al Dhanhani, 60, said that his journey began more than four decades ago after learning the trade from a relative. Since 1985, he has devoted himself to collecting wild honey and managing beehives, developing specialised skills in understanding bee behaviour and locating colonies hidden in some of the country's most challenging terrain. "The profession of collecting honey provides a decent living for those who practise it seriously, but it requires knowledge of the nature of bees, plant seasons and climatic conditions, in addition to the ability to deal with mountainous terrain and the challenges it imposes that may threaten the lives of those working in it," he said. Following the bees Years of experience have enabled Al Dhanhani to identify the location of wild bee colonies simply by observing the movement and flight direction of individual bees. "I have a special skill in locating wild bee colonies by observing the movement of the bee and the direction of its flight," he said. His work goes beyond searching existing colonies. Each year, he prepares cavities and shelters in mountain areas to attract swarms of bees and encourage them to establish new colonies. The effort yields substantial results. Al Dhanhani said he harvests between 100 and 200 kilograms of wild honey annually from mountain colonies, in addition to around 1,000 kilograms of honey produced in his apiaries. He explained that collecting wild honey and managing commercial hives require different forms of expertise. "The former depends on knowledge of the locations of wild bees and the ability to access them, while beekeeping requires monitoring the hives and providing suitable conditions for their stability." A profession full of risks Honey collection remains one of the most demanding traditional occupations in the UAE. Al Dhanhani warned that summer brings extreme heat, snakes emerging from their dens, red wasps and difficult mountain terrain. Some expeditions can last two days or more. "Running out of water in a remote mountainous area may lead to the death of the honey collector," he said. Winter presents its own hazards, including freezing temperatures at high altitudes and the risk of falls while climbing cliffs to reach hidden hives. "The beekeeper needs patience and the ability to endure difficult conditions, with good preparation for each trip, especially when the hives are located far from populated areas." A heritage passed down through generations According to Al Dhanhani, honey collection is one of the UAE's oldest professions, particularly among communities living in mountains and valleys. For generations, local residents have relied on their knowledge of wild bees living in caves, trees and rock crevices. This expertise has traditionally been passed from one generation to the next through practice and observation. "The sons learn from the experienced how to identify the locations of the bees and choose the appropriate times to collect honey," he said. He believes the Emirati beekeeper's experience is unique because it combines knowledge of bee behaviour, flowering seasons, mountain landscapes and local climate conditions. Sheikh Zayed's legacy Al Dhanhani credited the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan with helping transform beekeeping and honey production in the UAE. He said Sheikh Zayed's commitment to afforestation and expanding tree planting across the country created a more suitable environment for bees and increased natural nectar sources. "What the Emirati honey sector is witnessing today is linked, in part, to the agricultural and environmental legacy that Sheikh Zayed laid the foundations for." The unique character of Emirati honey Al Dhanhani said Emirati honey stands out because of the wide variety of local nectar sources available to bees. Among the most important are acacia (samar) and jujube (sidr) trees, which produce distinctive honey varieties with different colours, flavours and characteristics depending on the season and location. He also highlighted other nectar sources such as ghaf trees, mangroves and various wild plants. Despite the UAE's desert environment, he believes local honey ranks among the world's finest products. "I have visited many countries and witnessed the high demand for Emirati honey," he said. He attributed this demand largely to consumer trust in Emirati beekeepers and the reputation they have built for honesty and transparency. Protecting the reputation of local honey Al Dhanhani warned against practices that could damage the reputation of Emirati honey. "There is a problem that requires real solutions, which is the presence of honey that is imported from abroad, then packaged and sold to consumers as Emirati. This practice harms the reputation of the local product and consumer confidence, and solutions must be found." He stressed that the issue is not the import of honey itself, but inaccurate information about its origin. Maintaining consumer confidence, he said, requires transparency about the source of products and stronger oversight of packaging and marketing practices. He also noted that consumers often struggle to distinguish between pure and adulterated honey without specialised laboratory testing. Passing knowledge to the next generation Beyond producing honey, Al Dhanhani is committed to sharing his expertise. He conducts workshops covering honey production and beekeeping and has written a book on pure honey based on his personal experience and field observations. "The future of the profession depends on honesty in production and marketing, making use of inherited expertise, and passing it on to future generations," he said. For Al Dhanhani, beekeeping remains far more than a source of income. "The honey-collecting profession will remain for me a culture, a heritage, and a source of a decent livelihood."

UAE weather forecast: Most emirates below 40°C, fog this weekend and summer slowly losing its grip

Dubai: Six out of seven emirates are seeing the mercury drop below 40°C today, as temperatures ease around the UAE. Is summer heat finally receding? Today, the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) forecasts fair weather in general, turning partly cloudy at times in eastern and southern parts of the country. The NCM forecasts a slight decrease in temperatures across the emirates but cautions a build-up in humidity by nighttime and on Sunday morning over some coastal areas. This means there is a good chance of mist formation, this weekend, over cities like Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Humidity and temperatures Along with the decline in temperatures, relative humidity (RH), is holding steady, reaching a maximum of 75% in Dubai and 80% in Abu Dhabi. The NCM forecasts coastal and island regions to experience a maximum temperature range of 36°C to 41°C. Abu Dhabi will reach the 40°C threshold today, while the rest of the emirates are peaking in the high-30s. Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah will reach 39°C, while Umm Al Quwain will see a high of 38°C. Fujairah will experience relatively cooler temperatures, at 35°C. Etihad Rail Dubai to Abu Dhabi: 8 benefits, ticket prices from Dh29 and parking fees explained

Etihad Rail Dubai to Abu Dhabi: 8 benefits, ticket prices from Dh29 and parking fees explained

Abu Dhabi: Officials and passengers identified eight key benefits provided by Etihad Rail, with the opening of the Al Yalayis station in the emirate of Dubai, linking it to the emirates of Abu Dhabi and Fujairah. The project represents a qualitative leap in the country's transportation system, by providing a fast, safe and comfortable means of transportation, and enhancing ease of movement between the emirates. Etihad Rail revealed that this year will witness the opening of new stations in Zayed City, Liwa and the Al Dhafra region, noting that the train's capacity reached 400 passengers, the average advance booking of tickets reached 10 days, and the expected annual number of passengers will reach 10 million passengers “when fully operational”. Shortened travel time Specifically, the benefits included shortening travel time between Abu Dhabi and Dubai compared to a car, providing a more convenient and comfortable means of transportation for daily trips, contributing to reducing traffic congestion on main roads by diverting part of passenger traffic to the railway network, as well as reducing transportation costs for people who frequently travel between the two emirates, enhancing connectivity between them, and facilitating the movement of residents, employees, and visitors. Domestic tourism The benefits also included supporting domestic tourism by facilitating access to destinations and landmarks in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The journey is expected to increase employee productivity by allowing travel time to be used for work, reading, or rest, and providing a more sustainable transportation option that contributes to reducing emissions, enhancing economic activity by facilitating the movement of workers, customers, and visitors between the two economic centres, and raising the level of public transportation options in the country. This supports the future expansion of the transportation network and is reflected in the quality of life by providing a comfortable and organised means of transportation and reducing reliance on driving long distances. Amira Al Khalifi, Director of Strategy and Growth at Etihad Rail, said: “We have designed journey times to suit passengers’ travel patterns and needs, and provided services throughout the day to make using trains a practical option for daily commuting, as the passenger’s journey does not stop at the station. By linking passenger train services with the Dubai Metro and other transportation options, we provide the passenger with a more convenient and seamless experience to continue their journey within Dubai and to other destinations.” She added: “We have provided features that make the train a better option than driving a car by ensuring a comfortable seat, free Wi-Fi, charging points and luggage storage space on board the train, which contributes to turning travel time into an opportunity that can be exploited, as we want passengers to feel that the time they spend with us is better invested time, whether they choose to get their work done, stay connected, relax, or simply enjoy the train travel experience.” Integrated urban network Al-Khalifi stressed that the opening of the Al-Yalais train station in Dubai represents a new stage in the development of the national infrastructure, going beyond the concept of traditional transportation to building an integrated urban and economic communication network that connects population, economic and tourist centres throughout the country, by employing the latest technologies and innovations to develop an advanced and environmentally friendly transportation system. For her part, Emirati chef Maitha Warsho, who is in charge of the menus on board Etihad trains, said that she lives in Dubai and works in Abu Dhabi, noting that the opening of the Etihad train line from Abu Dhabi to Dubai will greatly facilitate her daily commute to her workplace, and provide her with more time to rest and spend with her family and carry out her personal activities after the end of working hours. Better use of commuting time Warsho added that the level of comfort provided by Etihad trains gives passengers the opportunity to invest their time on the round trip in a better way, whether in accomplishing some tasks, or relaxing and restoring their energy, instead of being preoccupied with driving, which allows them to continue their personal activities and make better use of their time after arriving at their destination. She expressed her happiness at being part of this special event, stressing that the operation of the Abu Dhabi-Dubai train line represents an important addition to the daily commuting experience, and provides a practical and comfortable option for people who travel continuously between the two emirates. Alleviating traffic congestion Passengers of various nationalities and ages flocked to Mohammed bin Zayed Station in Abu Dhabi to board the train and travel to Dubai and Fujairah. Mohammed Fayez, Samer Fouad, Rana Adel, and Aisha Khan noted that the station's opening has provided residents and visitors with a new option for traveling between Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Fujairah, helping to reduce reliance on private vehicles, alleviate traffic congestion, and allow them to use their travel time for work or leisure instead of driving long distances. Comfortable travel experience Ahmed Khaled, Youssef Abdullah, Mariam Hassan, Jonathan Cruz, Priya Nair, and Sophie O’Connor also confirmed that the train provides an organised and comfortable travel experience, reduces the burdens of daily commuting, and maintains punctuality, especially for employees and people who frequently travel between the Emirates. It also facilitates access to tourist, commercial, and entertainment destinations and supports domestic tourism. Frequent trips Etihad Rail announced that, as of yesterday, passengers can travel directly between Abu Dhabi and Fujairah, marking a new milestone in travel across the Etihad Rail network. More stations and destinations will be added gradually as the network expands. The company noted that it operates 10 daily trips between Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and six daily trips between Abu Dhabi and Fujairah. Dubai-Abu Dhabi services operate around the clock, with guaranteed seats and advance booking options. Ticket prices start from Dh29 for Comfort Class and Dh89 for Premium Class, with various ticket options available. Expansions to follow During a media briefing organized on the occasion of the opening of the Al Yalayis station in Dubai, the company revealed the long-term vision for Etihad Rail passenger services in the UAE and across the region, noting that the Etihad Rail network will continue to expand, with additional stations joining, including stations in Zayed City and Liwa on November 30, followed by additional stations in the Al Dhafra region on December 30, and then the Sharjah station on March 30, 2027. Beyond the borders of the UAE, projects such as the Hafeet Rail highlight the promising potential to enhance regional connectivity, providing new links between the UAE and the Sultanate of Oman, and supporting the movement of passengers and goods across borders. Parking for commuters Etihad Rail has confirmed its commitment to providing parking at Etihad Rail stations, allowing train users to easily park their vehicles and continue their journeys comfortably. The company explained that parking fees vary depending on the station. At Abu Dhabi station, the first 15 minutes are free, and the fee is Dh5 per hour for up to two hours, and Dh15 for more than two hours up to 24 hours for vehicles entering the parking area between 6am and 2am. Abu Dhabi: “Dear passengers, boarding has now begun for the train to Dubai station. Please prepare your tickets and proceed to platform 2.” With this announcement, in both Arabic and English, the countdown began for the official launch of the first Etihad Rail journey from Mohammed Bin Zayed Station in Abu Dhabi to Al Yalayis Station in Dubai, amidst an atmosphere that reflected the importance of the event. The station’s facade welcomed passengers with a huge digital screen displaying a countdown of the time remaining until departure, along with the destination, under the slogan “We are building a future that enhances connectivity between the Emirates.” This scene embodies the launch of a new phase of the rail transport system and reflects the project’s ambition to enhance connectivity and ease of movement between the various emirates of the country. In detail, the UAE's transportation sector witnessed a new milestone on Wednesday with the opening of Al Yalayis Station in Dubai and the commencement of Etihad Rail services from there to Abu Dhabi and Fujairah. The station offers passengers direct access to the Dubai Metro's Jumeirah Properties station, enhancing ease of travel to and from the train station. Tickets for the Dubai-Abu Dhabi route are available from Dh39 in the "Comfort Class" category, while a premium ticket costs Dh109. The journey between the two cities takes approximately 60 minutes, with the train reaching a maximum speed of 200km per hour. According to the schedule, there will be 10 daily trips on the Abu Dhabi-Dubai route, in addition to six daily trips connecting Dubai to Fujairah. National achievement “Less than five years ago, the UAE passenger rail network was an ambition we were striving to achieve, and today it has become a national reality connecting the various parts of the country, where it has become more than just a means of transportation between destinations. Every detail of the journeys has been designed according to the needs of passengers, combining comfort, hospitality and the spirit that distinguishes the United Arab Emirates,” said Azra Al Mansouri, Executive Director of the Commercial Sector at Etihad Rail Passenger Services. She added: “With each new destination joining the network, the benefits of passenger trains extend to more people across the UAE. This achievement embodies the vision of the UAE’s wise leadership, which has contributed to transforming the national ambition to enhance connectivity between different regions of the country into a tangible reality.” Mobility and flexibility Amira Al Khalifi, Director of Strategy and Growth at Etihad Rail, explained that Etihad Rail's station in Dubai serves as a vital link between the national rail network and the emirate's transportation system, offering passengers greater flexibility to connect their journeys via a variety of public and private transport options. She noted that the station is connected to the Jumeirah Golf Estates Metro Station via a dedicated pedestrian bridge, providing a direct link between Etihad Rail and the Dubai Metro. Furthermore, integration with the Nol system allows passengers to combine Etihad Rail journeys with Dubai's public transport network using a single QR code that can be used across trains, Metro, trams, and buses. Al Khalifi pointed out that the project was completed in a shorter time period than the announced schedule, so that the passenger train project moved from the planning and announcement stage to a national network that connects residential communities and business centres, and expands access to opportunities, thus supporting economic and social development paths throughout the country. She emphasised that the remarkable demand for passenger train services between Abu Dhabi and Fujairah since their launch reflects the growing confidence of the community in this new mode of transportation, and its role in responding to the needs of travellers and raising the efficiency of the national transport system, explaining that every expansion of the network enhances connectivity between the Emirates of the country, and supports broader prospects for growth and development. Special prices Al Khalifi said: “Etihad Rail offers special fares for specific categories of travellers, helping families, children, and the elderly to plan their trips around the UAE more easily. Infants under the age of two travel for free when sitting on the lap of the accompanying adult, while children aged two to 17 receive a special fare equivalent to 50% of the adult ticket price, and passengers aged 60 and above benefit from a 20% discount on the adult ticket price.” Additional benefits Mansour Al Mulla, Director of Network Performance at Etihad Rail, explained that the company has adopted several official channels for purchasing tickets, including the Etihad Rail app, which offers passengers a variety of fares and the ability to pre-select seats, as well as the company's official website and self-service kiosks available at all train stations. He noted that the journey provides passengers with a modern and comprehensive travel experience, including comfortable seats, Wi-Fi, charging ports for electronic devices next to the seats, and dedicated luggage compartments. Furthermore, premium class passengers benefit from a range of additional services and amenities designed to enhance comfort and provide a more luxurious travel experience. He said: “The Etihad Rail station is connected to the Jumeirah Golf Estates Metro Station via a dedicated pedestrian bridge, providing direct access. The metro station is also connected to the Red Line, facilitating onward travel to various destinations across the city. Other available transportation options include buses, taxis, and private vehicles, with designated drop-off and pick-up areas, and the ability to use the Nol card and the Etihad Rail app.” First Emirati captain For his part, Captain Ibrahim Al Hammadi, the first Emirati passenger train driver, explained that passenger safety and adherence to schedules are his top priorities. He noted that precision and discipline are fundamental pillars of passenger train operation, along with ensuring a safe and comfortable travel experience. He added that his work in passenger transport brings him immense joy, especially seeing passengers travel with ease and convenience across the country. He emphasised that every journey represents a genuine opportunity to contribute to improving daily life, which, as an Emirati citizen, is a source of great pride and honour for him. Emirati flavours As Emirati chef Maitha Warsho explained, the menu on board Etihad trains reflects the company’s direction towards enhancing the passenger experience, by combining the modernity of train travel with the authenticity of Emirati cuisine, through dishes that combine familiar taste with presentation in a modern spirit, embodying an aspect of the cultural identity of the UAE. She noted that the menu is based on the concept of "A Journey through the Emirates," drawing inspiration from the culinary heritage of each emirate, thus giving travellers the opportunity to discover authentic local flavours as they travel between different destinations. She added that the menu's ingredients are inspired by key elements of Emirati cuisine and the local environment, including dates, saffron, cardamom, local honey, and Arabic coffee, along with a range of other ingredients associated with the traditional flavours of the country and the region. Nol ticket Etihad Rail confirmed that passengers booking their tickets through the Etihad Rail app can add a one-day Nol pass to their booking, allowing them to use Dubai's public transport services as part of a complete journey. Passengers who have already booked train tickets can also add a Nol pass via a QR code, which combines the train ticket and public transport services into a single code. This integration reflects Etihad Rail's commitment to strengthening cooperation with its partners in the transport ecosystem, contributing to a more seamless and integrated travel experience for passengers from their starting point to their final destination. She noted that more than 150,000 passengers benefited from the pilot passenger train services between Abu Dhabi and Fujairah, with increasing rates of service usage. Etihad Rail continues to incorporate passenger feedback and experiences from the pilot phase, with the average advance booking time reaching approximately 10 days. This provides valuable insights into passenger needs and service usage patterns as the network expands. Etihad Rail confirmed its continued expansion, with new stations planned for Zayed City and Liwa, in addition to Sharjah station, and expansion plans extending to the Al Dhafra region. Beyond national borders, projects like the Hafeet Train offer promising opportunities to enhance regional connectivity between the UAE and Oman, supporting the movement of passengers and goods across the border. Reliable transport Etihad Rail confirmed that the Etihad Rail network offers a modern and reliable option for intercity travel, whether for business, leisure, or daily commutes, with fixed operating times, reserved seats, and a comfortable travel experience. The network noted that the service is experiencing increasing demand and a rise in regular usage, reflecting the reliance of a growing segment of travellers on it for their frequent journeys. The network explained that Etihad Rail and the Dubai Metro are two distinct systems within the UAE's transportation network. Etihad Rail connects cities and destinations across the various emirates, while the Dubai Metro provides transportation within the emirate of Dubai. It noted the differences between the two systems in terms of ticketing and usage conditions, pointing out that Etihad Rail has specific regulations regarding luggage, food, beverages, and other items passengers are permitted to carry, in addition to offering seat reservations.

He said each new extension of the network further strengthens integration between the emirates and creates new opportunities for growth and prosperity. His Highness also met Emiratis working on the project and reviewed their contributions to the development and operation of passenger services. UAE weather forecast: Cooler high-30s temperatures and easing humidity, with fog overnight in Dubai, Abu Dhabi

Dubai: Good news – winter is coming! The mercury is dipping to the high-30s today across major cities in the UAE, and humidity, while still high, is also seeing a slight decline across the country. The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) forecasts fair weather today, with partly cloudy skies. The eastern region of the country may see scattered rain due to the appearance of convective clouds by this afternoon. Slight fall in humidity Relative humidity (RH) across major cities, like Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah, is decreasing to a peak of 85% today, after an average of 95% last week. The authorities still expect humidity to build up by nighttime, and on Tuesday morning, over some coastal and internal areas with a probability of fog or mist formation. This means Abu Dhabi and Dubai may experience fog cover, so drive carefully in such conditions, as there may be a drop in visibility. Temperatures in the high-30s Daytime temperatures are in high-30s across the UAE today, with coastal and island regions experiencing a maximum range of 36°C to 41°C. Abu Dhabi will reach 41°C today, while Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah will peak at 39°C. Umm Al Quwain will reach a high of 38°C, while Sharjah and Ajman will see 37°C temperatures. Calm sea conditions The NCM forecasts light to moderate southeasterly to northeasterly winds, reaching speeds of up to 30km/h along the coast and in internal areas. Both the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman are expected to experience slight conditions all week long, according to the NCM, which means you can expect gentle waves reaching heights of up to two feet on-shore and up to three feet off-shore. Pink Caravan begins nationwide breast cancer awareness drive with free screenings starting October 1

Sharjah: Friends of Cancer Patients (FOCP) will launch Pink Caravan’s 2026 Breast Cancer Awareness Month campaign on 1 October, bringing together free screenings, community initiatives, awareness sessions and community activations across the UAE. Building on the reach of last year’s campaign, which delivered more than 19,000 free screenings to 17,458 women and 2,244 men, Pink Caravan 2026 will create multiple ways for individuals, families, companies and communities to participate. The month-long programme aims to make breast health services more accessible while encouraging people to prioritise regular checks and support those around them to do the same. Throughout October, nine fixed Pink Caravan clinics will operate across the UAE, comprising nine locations which include Mushrif Mall in Abu Dhabi, Mall of Al Ain & Makani Zakher in Al Ain, City Walk in Dubai, Al Majaz Waterfront and Al Dhaid Mall in Sharjah, Mall of UAQ in Umm Al Quwain, RAK Mall in Ras Al Khaimah and Lulu Mall in Fujairah, providing communities across the country with convenient access to breast cancer screening throughout the month. Beyond the fixed clinics, Pink Caravan’s Mobile Clinic and Mini Mobile Clinics will travel across the UAE throughout October, extending breast health awareness and screening into communities across the country. The clinics will visit residential neighbourhoods, shopping and lifestyle destinations, universities, workplaces and government entities, making access to breast health services more convenient. Pink Caravan will also take its message directly into workplaces and educational institutions through corporate clinic bookings, Employee Wellness Days and specialised awareness sessions. These initiatives will educate participants about breast health, signs and symptoms, self-examination and the importance of regular screening. "Early detection remains one of the most important tools we have in improving breast cancer outcomes, and our priority is to make screening as accessible as possible to communities across the UAE. This year, we are not only expanding opportunities to get checked, but also encouraging families, friends and communities to play a greater role in prompting the women in their lives to prioritise their health. By combining accessible screening with sustained awareness throughout October, we hope to turn early detection into a simple, proactive step that more people feel encouraged to take,” said Aisha Al Mulla, Director - Friends of Cancer Patients The Pink Caravan Community Event will return to Aljada, Sharjah, from 2 to 4 October for its third edition, in collaboration with Arada. Scheduled from 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM, the festival will combine health and community engagement in an accessible setting for the whole family and screenings available for eligible men and women. Visitors will be able to access free clinical breast examinations and mammograms through Mobile Clinics. Pink Caravan is also calling on the wider community to play an active role in advancing breast health awareness throughout October. Members of the public can support the campaign by booking a screening at one of the fixed clinics, taking part in community activations and encouraging family and friends to prioritise early detection. Organisations can also contribute by hosting a clinic, organising an awareness session or Employee Wellness Day, or partnering with the campaign to extend its reach across workplaces and communities.
